Obama energy order feeds Iran war speculation

"Energy industry analysts are trying to assess the implications of a new executive order that effectively gives the government control over the nation’s natural resources in the event of a national emergency.

The measure was signed by President Obama on Friday.

According to the order, “the domestic industrial and technological base is the foundation for national defense preparedness. The authorities provided in the Act shall be used to strengthen this base and to ensure it is capable of responding to the national defense needs of the United States.”

Executive departments and agencies responsible for plans and programs relating to national defense should “be prepared, in the event of a potential threat to the security of the United States, to take actions necessary to ensure the availability of adequate resources and production capability, including services and critical technology for national defense requirements.” Read the executive order.

The order “is either a serious power grip or another sign that inside the deep recesses of the White House, they are preparing for war,” said Phil Flynn, an energy analyst at PFGBest.

In a blog Monday published by the Huffington Post, book author Edwin Black suggested that the move may have been made in anticipation of an outbreak of war between Israel, the West and Iran......."
